05:30 am
We leave Cusco by bus, on the route until we reach Pisaq at Huaran creek (2950 m / 9676 ft). Here we begin to walk to a small valley that narrows gradually upward, while on an original Inca trail, enjoying a variety of native flora and fauna. After a few hours of walking, we arrive at Cancha Cancha (4000m / 13,192 ft), where we will be received and have the opportunity to share a vision of the traditional lifestyle and culture of this Andean community. (Duration: 3 hours / Distance: 6 km.)
After a delicious breakfast Leaving Quishuarani this is going to be our longest day on the trail we continue northeast up the valley, passing small thatched stone houses. After a ½ hour the path flattens out before climbing steeply for the 2½ hour trek to the highest pass, called Pachacutec Pass (4758m). From the pass you’ll be rewarded with superb views of Pachacutec Lake and the snowy peaks of Pitusiray. The path continues for an hour along a narrow ridge until dropping down into a beautiful secluded corrie filled with glacial lakes (Lunch). The lip of the corrie descends into the next valley, following a series of cascading waterfalls to the village of Cancha Cancha. We’ll camp here for the night.
As we leave our campsite, to pass to Huillquijasa (4,457 m / 14,618 ft) we will see the Colque Chacon Cross and the glaciers and the 7 lakes full of huallatas (Andean geese), ducks and other waterfowl. The highest point we follow down to reach the community of Cuncani (3886 m / 12746 ft), a picturesque village, similar to the previous campsite. This was the last refuge of the Real Panaka, an Inca sect. After our picnic lunch we will continue past a narrow valley, full of spectacular and giant stones, to reach the Trapiche Valley floor. In the afternoon we will continue on the way along the change of the puna, the lakes and the agricultural areas until arriving at Cuncani 3h later, where we will have dinner and camp.
We left at Cuncani 8.00am to walk through a fertile valley with typical vegetation, crops and farming communities. Along the trail we will see native flowers such as begonias and wild orchids. After a walk of about 2 hours we will arrive in Lares (3261 m / 10696 ft), capital of the district of the same name, a large town whose main attraction is its pleasant thermal waters, where we can enjoy a swim. After lunch, we will board a private car that will take us back to Ollantaytambo. From here we can take 3 hours by car to Ollantaytambo for the extended trip to visit Machu Picchu. We are going to take the train to Aguas Calientes. Spend the night in a hotel.
Early on awakening, breakfast, leave our luggage at the hotel, we will take one of the first tour buses to Machu Picchu, of course, with a bilingual guide, we usually arrive at Machu Picchu at 06:00 hrs. We will have a guided tour of approximately 2 and a half hours, have time to explore on your own and maybe go up to Huayna Picchu and get the best view of Machu Picchu that takes 1 hour with 40 minutes round trip time or the option to go to Temple of the Moon that is located behind the mountain Huayna Picchu.
