We leave Cusco early in the morning to begin our adventure trip! First of all, we are taken by private transportation to the place called Ninamarca to observe “pre-Inca chullpas” (tombs) of the Lupaca culture. Then, we continue Paucartambo, a colonial town with narrow streets and beautiful church, where they keep their old customs. Later, we climbed Acjanaco Pass (3,550 masl) to consider an entrance to the Manu National Park and then we arrived at the Tres Cruces de Oro viewpoint (3700 masl) to see one of the best sunrises in the world! From there, begins our descent to the edge of the jungle of Manu passing first a dwarf forest and there is a cloud forest where we can see a cock of the rocks, hummingbirds, striking colors quetzales, trogons, gray flycatchers and the woolly monkey . From the flora, we can see a great variety of orchids, mosses, ferns, etc. Finally, we arrive at Pilcopata (700 masl), where our first lodge – Tikari Lodge is placed. We can freshen up not having a shower and after that, we were served dinner, before we got to bed.
After breakfast, we continue our trip by private car (one and a half hour) to the port of Atalaya (500 masl). There, we will embark on a motor boat to continue for about half an hour of navigation on the Alto Madre de Dios river. Along the rocky banks, we have a great opportunity to observe the river’s wildlife as well as many birds, turtles or lizards basking in the sun. In the afternoon, we arrive at our next lodge – Rainforest Lodge. Then we will explore the nearby roads where we can see a great diversity of species, for example, tarantulas, ants, butterflies, some species of monkeys, huge trees, erotic plants, palm trees, etc. After that, we return to our hostel where we spend the night. Optional: A night walk.
We got up very early today, after having nice dreams to explore a deeper part of the Peruvian jungle to know its particular flora and fauna! This special place offers you the opportunity to see its endemic species hidden in the depths of the Manu, as well as medicinal plants used by local natives to cure various diseases! If we are lucky, we can also see large animals, such as the jaguar, the puma, the boar, capybaras, anteaters, etc. After that, we return to our lodge for lunch. Then, we have a short break to enjoy a refreshing swim in a river or just relax in the lodge. In the afternoon, we will visit Machuwasi Lago to check a sail in “oars” (trunks of hollowed out trees used by the natives of the area). This is a perfect way to see a great diversity of local animal species, such as a prehistoric bird called hoatzin, some alligators, capybaras or Tocon monkeys (Callicebus oenanthe). Later, we returned to the lodge to spend the night. Optional: A night walk.
After breakfast, we will embark on a motorboat that takes us to a 10 minute far collpa of parrots, parakeets and Aras (macaw), which is an unforgettable experience! After this activity, we will return to the hostel for breakfast. Then we return aboard our ship to start back. Our first stop is at the Puerto de Atalaya, where our private vehicle awaits us to take us back to Cusco arriving there between 7 and 7:30 pm.
